Empowering Education:
Hi5 Club Students Bring Remote Learning to Edward International School in Rural Cambodia
As the summer sun bathes Cambodia's rural landscapes, a group of enthusiastic students from the Hi5 Club has embarked on a mission to illuminate minds in a far-flung village. Their destination? The Edward International School, nestled amidst the idyllic countryside of Cambodia. The Hi5 Club, known for its commitment to educational initiatives, has seized the opportunity presented by the summer break to initiate a remote teaching program. Their gaze fell upon Edward International School, a beacon of learning in a community where educational resources are often scarce.
The curriculum crafted by the Hi5 Club is both comprehensive and empowering, encompassing a range of subjects designed to broaden the horizons of the eager learners at Edward International School. From Mandarin Chinese to computer Science, English, and World History, the syllabus is a testament to the Hi5 Club's dedication to holistic education.
Through virtual classrooms and online platforms, Hi5 Club students, drawn from diverse backgrounds and cultures, connect with their Cambodian counterparts. The digital divide collapses as lessons on Chinese characters, computer coding, English grammar, and historical events transcend borders, reaching students who may never have dreamt of such exposure.
The exchange is not merely academic; it's a cultural bridge. The Hi5 Club students, passionate about sharing their knowledge, are equally eager to learn about Cambodian traditions, customs, and the resilient spirit of the community they are impacting. As the digital screens light up with lessons and laughter, the Hi5 Club and Edward International School form a collaborative partnership that transcends geographic boundaries. It is a story of students empowering students, breaking down barriers, and fostering a love for learning that resonates far beyond the virtual classroom—a tale of education as a force for positive change in the heart of Cambodia's countryside.
Hi5 Club Students Raise $20,000 for School in Cambodia
In an amazing effort, students from Hi5 Club collected $20,000 to help Edward International School in Cambodia. They did this by organizing fundraisers at their school and in the community. This money was used to build a new school building in a rural area. This all started in February 2023, and since then, things have gotten much better at Edward International School. The students now have a nicer place to learn, and the teachers have better tools to teach. Hi5 Club is awesome—they
help Edward International School regularly, about 2-3 times a year.
They gather funds or items and send them from the United States or
China to help out. Hi5 Club's support is not just about money—it's
also about giving important school stuff. These actions make a real
impact, creating connections between students from different places.
Learning about each other's cultures makes education even better
for everyone involved. This effort by Hi5 Club shows how young people
can make a big difference when they work together for a good cause.
As Hi5 Club keeps helping, the story of Edward International School
teaches us about the amazing things that can happen when people
come together to support education in communities that need it.
Hi5 Club's Academic Support Initiative at AHS
In a commendable effort to foster a culture of academic excellence, the members of Hi5 Club, who are also senior students at American Heritage Schools, have initiated a project aimed at providing tutoring assistance to their fellow classmates during leisure hours. This proactive endeavor goes beyond conventional tutoring, as Hi5 Club members extend their support to a variety of subjects. This includes supplementary lessons in AP Chinese (For American Students), calculus, English literature, physics, biology, and chemistry, etc. The goal is to enhance the learning experience and ensure that students excel in their academic pursuits.
Starting from June 2023, the Hi5 Club members have expanded their scope to assist incoming students or those joining the school later. Their focus is on helping these new students familiarize themselves with AHS's teaching methodologies, understand the usage of the school's online systems, and receive guidance on specific courses. This proactive approach not only aids in a smoother transition for newcomers but also emphasizes the Hi5 Club's commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive academic community at AHS.
The project not only reflects the dedication of Hi5 Club members to their own academic success but also underscores their desire to contribute to the overall growth and success of their peers. Through this initiative, the Hi5 Club has become an integral part of AHS's academic ecosystem, embodying the spirit of collaboration and support that defines the school's community.
